Let's Get This Party Started

A few weeks ago, a nice gentleman happened upon my wedding website (The Bride's Secretary) and saw everything I offered there. He thought he'd take a chance and reach out to me to see if I ONLY did weddings...or if I'd be able to handle a surprise birthday party? I've done some private contract projects for invitations to anniversary parties and graduations, so I told him, "Sure, I can do that!"

I was pleasantly surprised (pun intended) by how much fun it was working on a surprise party. We're still two weeks out from the event so I can't share names and other details here...but he has said I can add the design to my client gallery after the fact. So check back here in a couple of weeks.

What did hiring My Event Secretary look like for him? Well...

• I designed the invitation and the RSVP card based on his ideas and we edited it until it was perfect

• After I'd picked them up from the printer, I stuffed and addressed each envelope individually before taking them to the post office

• The stamped RSVP postcard included with the invitation had MY address on it so that nothing would accidentally show up at the house of the birthday girl or someone she might visit

• As the postcards came in, I updated the guest list spreadsheet on Google docs so he could see what responses we were getting

• The RSVP deadline was last Friday, so yesterday I began calling those people we hadn't heard from so he can have a more accurate count for the caterer (only waiting to hear back from 3 families now as I write this)

• In the meantime, I made edits to the invitation and had it printed on 24" x 36" poster boards. These he will prop up on easels and guests will be able to sign them at the party to make a special keepsake for the honoree.

I was thrilled when he told me how much stress I had taken off his plate in the planning process. That's one of the main goals of both avenues of my business. It gave him and his wife time to work on all the other things like caterers and bakers and decorations.
